There’s no shortage of ways to protect your Office 365 account and business. Here are a few of the most important:

If an email looks suspicious, don’t click on any links or open any attachments. And if you’re not sure whether an email is really from your bank or another organization, don’t hesitate to contact the organization directly to confirm.

When it comes to phishing scams, there are a few red flags that you should always be on the lookout for. One of the most common is an unknown sender. If you receive an email from someone you don’t know, or from an address that looks suspicious, be cautious. Another red flag to watch out for is grammatical and typographical errors. Scammers often create emails in a hurry, and as such, they can be full of mistakes. Finally, be wary of any suspicious requests. If someone is asking you to do something that doesn’t seem right, or is offering too good to be true, it probably is. If you see any of these red flags, err on the side of caution and don’t respond to the email.

Use strong passwords. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s amazing how many people still use weak passwords. A strong password is at least 12 characters long and includes a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters.

Enable two-factor authentication. Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security that requires you to enter a code from your phone or other device in addition to your password. This makes it much harder for someone to hack into your account.

Keep your software up to date. This one is important for two reasons. First, newer versions of software usually have security fixes for vulnerabilities that older versions don’t. Second, hackers often target old versions of software because they know that many people don’t keep their software up to date.

Use a VPN. A VPN (virtual private network) encrypts your traffic and makes it more difficult for someone to snoop on your activity or hack into your account.

Be aware of the risks. The more you know about the threats out there, the better equipped you’ll be to deal with them. Stay up to date on the latest security news and make sure you’re using all the best practices to keep your account and data safe.
